Fox goes on long-term injured reserve for Rangers

NEW YORK Adam Fox was placed on long term injured reserve by the New York Rangers on Friday. The defenseman left their 2 1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden on Thursday after sustaining a lower body injury in the first period. Fox collided leg on leg with Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho with 7:57 remaining. He stayed on the ice to complete his shift coming out of a television timeout and played one more 31 second shift, but he left the bench to go back to the dressing room with about 5:30 to play in the period and the game tied 1 1. Fox, who has to be out a minimum of 10 games and 24 days, will be eligible to return to the Rangers lineup on Nov. 29 at the Detroit Red Wings. Zac Jones will take Fox's place in the lineup when New York visits the Minnesota Wild on Saturday 8 p. m. ET; BSNX, BSWI, MSG Nic Petan Jersey. "It's just part of the business," Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said Saturday. "This is what happens. Happens with every team. And you know, we came out of it and had to make some moves and we're looking forward to getting this game, this lineup going tonight. "Fox has 11 points three goals, eight assists in 10 games this season, tied for the second among NHL defensemen with Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche. Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks leads all defensemen with 16 points. Fox was the runner up to Erik Karlsson, then of the San Jose Sharks, for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman last season, when he had 72 points 12 goals, 60 assists in 82 games. Fox won the Norris in 2020 21. "If he's out any period of time, obviously he's a huge player in this league, huge player for our team," Rangers captain Jacob Trouba said Thursday. "It'll be on guys to step up. " Fox placed on LTIR and Chytil placed on IR Forward Filip Chytil was placed on injured reserve Friday. He left the game late in the second period with an upper body injury and will be replaced in the lineup Saturday by Jonny Brodzinski, who was recalled from Hartford of the American Hockey League on Friday. New York also recalled goalie Louis Domingue, who will back up Jonathan Quick on Saturday with No. 1 goalie Igor Shesterkin unable to play. "He was banged up just coming out of the game on Thursday ," Laviolette said of Shesterkin. "We made a decision to recall Louis. This was always Jonathan Quick's game to start. This was the plan as we were coming here.
