The sci-fi hero shooter Concord is facing significant criticism online, with many gamers deeming its character designs "ugly." This newly unveiled title from Sony first-party developer Firewalk Studios has had a rough start in terms of overall reception, with many PlayStation fans unimpressed by its gameplay reveal. The backlash over the character designs is only adding to the discontent.

Concord marks the debut title for Firewalk Studios, led by former Bungie veterans and acquired by Sony in early 2023. Initially announced at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase with a brief CGI trailer, the game offered little context, leaving fans uncertain about what to expect. However, during the May 2024 State of Play, Concord was fully revealed as a live-service, 5v5 first-person hero shooter set in a universe reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy. Unfortunately, this reveal has not been well-received, with the game's character designs drawing particular ire.

A Reddit user named gpetrakas posted on the r/gaming subreddit, criticizing Concord for having the "ugliest character designs" they had ever seen. They shared a screenshot of Emari, one of the playable "freegunners," showcasing her blue lipstick, green armor, yellow helmet, and purple stripes. This unconventional color palette has been deemed unappealing by many, with Redditors like RTXEnabledViera describing Emari's appearance as "bland" compared to the distinct and recognizable characters from hero shooters like Overwatch.
